| The Moon over the City of Perth from King's Park. To celebrate the conjunction of the Global Solstice and the Lunar Perigee, December 22nd, 1999. Event Details: December 22, 1999 was the date of Summer Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere. It was also the first conjunction in 133 years with a full moon at lunar perigee (point in the moon's orbit that is closest to Earth). As a result, the moon appeared about 14% larger than it does at apogee (the point in it's elliptical orbit that is farthest from the Earth). This day is also noteworthy as the second anniversary of the Wrinkle in Time events. Two years ago, on our first Wrinkle in Time event, we photographed the Narrows Bridge visible at the bottom of the pano. Location Details: Perth City and the Swan River by night, photographed from King's Park. The ethereal, cross-shaped structures on the grass below below the floodlit gum trees are our three sons, posing over the coloured spotlights embedded in the grass. They were wearing a variety of Christmas-theme headwear: one a Santa hat; one a set of green foam-rubber reindeer antlers; and the third, a red-and-white particoloured Jester's hat with bells on it. Their choices of pose and position were all their own, and were just part of the wild and silly mood they were in on that warm summer night, running around on the dark, grassy hillside, playing chasey in and out of the spotlights. Tech Specs: We used a Canon EOS 620 with a Sigma 17-35mm AF lens, mounted onto a Kaidan QuickPan Magnum Head and Manfrotto Tripod. Panorama stitched with The VR Worx. |
