| Photographed at Lake Cave, in the Margaret River region of Western Australia at 10.00am on Sunday 22nd March 1998. Free Time Shoot. Location Notes: Lake Cave is a small but spectacular cave in the Margaret River region, in the extreme SW corner of Western Australia. This region is best known internationally for its wineries, but is also famous for the quality of its surfing beaches, tall timber forests and caves. Shoot Notes: The Wishing Well is situated about 3/4ths of the way into the Lake Cave. This panoramic sequence was shot using the 'ambient' lighting set up within the cave and fill-in flash illumination. The opening view shows the edge of an unusual brain coral-like stalagmite and The Wishing Well, a small pool of clear water between short rounded stalagmites. The flash illumination enables the striking black and white colouration of these stalagmites to be seen, and provides a truer record of the cave's real colours. We recorded the sweet sounds of water dripping from the cave roof into The Wishing Well and will include as an ambient sound file shortly. The pathway climbs up and down between the rocks at this point to reach the final viewing platform at the end of the cave. Acknowledgements: Many thanks to CaveWorks for their permission to shoot within the area, and for the assistance and support of the cave guides during the shoot. Thanks also to Robert Frith of Acorn Photgraphics, for the generous loan of his rectilinear lens for the weekend. Technical details: Shot on a Canon EOS 620 using Kodacolor Gold III 400 ASA film and a 17-35mm rectilinear zoom lens set at 24mm. Camera attached to a custom pano head on a Manfrotto Triminor tripod. |
