Bangarra Dance Theatre is one of the youngest and oldest of Australia's
dance companies. Its living traditions go back at least 40 000 years
but it also reflects the lives and attitudes of Indigenous people today.
This unique company blends traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander history and culture with international contemporary dance influences
to create a truly Australian dance language.
In May 2003, Mastery Multimedia designed and produced this Educational
CD-ROM for Bangarra, with the generous sponsorship of Telstra.
The CD-ROM presents over 40 mins of video footage and over 40 mins of
music from a wide range of Bangarra's recent repertoire, together with
in-depth information such as Director's Notes, Choreographer's Notes
and Composer's Notes for the different performances.
In conjunction with advisors from the Education Department of NSW,
a series of Study Topics was designed and included on the CD-ROM, to
meet the needs of Senior High School Curriculum studies in Dance, Performance
Arts, and Indigenous Studies.
Mastery also used an innovative implementation of Apple's QuickTime
VR technology to present AIATSIS's Clan Map of Aboriginal Australia
in a form which encourages exploration and discovery.
